Vice President of Construction - Virginia Beach, VA
We are partnered with a residential construction company to find a hands-on, forward-thinking Vice President of Construction to lead residential construction operations. This critical leadership role will serve as the president’s right hand, overseeing day-to-day construction activities, driving project execution, ensuring quality, and developing the team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong residential construction experience and the desire to grow into a long-term leadership role.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in residential homebuilding, excellent organizational and leadership skills, and a desire to be part of a growing, team-oriented company. This role is primarily office-based, with regular visits to active job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all active residential construction projects, each with a dedicated superintendent and team.
Manage project scheduling, quality control, site coordination, and warranty
service to ensure homes are delivered on time, on budget, and to company standards.
Collaborate closely with the President on strategic planning, operations, and company growth initiatives.
Review and interpret site plans, budgets, and construction schedules.
Ensure field staff are held accountable for performance, compliance, and timelines.
Support the hiring, training, and development of construction personnel.
Act as a liaison between the office and job sites—ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
Promote a culture of professionalism, safety, and high performance across all sites.
Participate in reviewing and refining construction processes for improved efficiency.
Occasionally assist with reviewing estimates, but will not be primarily responsible for estimating.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree is required (construction management, civil engineering, business, or a related field).
7+ years of progressive residential construction experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Demonstrated hands-on experience in the homebuilding process, including site development and field coordination.
Proven experience in scheduling, quality assurance, and team management.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Willingness to be in the office full-time with regular visits to job sites.
Strong long-term career ambitions with interest in company leadership succession.
